Youth Activities

The Youth Activities section of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue encompasses a broad range of ages and interests. Directed by Tania Korin, the youth section caters to young families, young children, teenagers and young adults and welcomes them at our synagogue.

Naturally, their goal is to help educate families about Judaism in a fun and multicultural way. They want to entertain the children in a nurturing environment that enables them to learn about their heritage and traditions. From holiday parties, teaming up with the nursery, regular programming, as well as creating a group Bat Mitzvah program, the Spanish and Portuguese synagogue is committed to providing family entertainment for children of all ages.

If your child feels that he or she is too old for activities of this type, perhaps he or she should consider joining S.P.Y. or JECO, both of which are programs that are more suitable for teenagers. S.P.Y., also known as Spanish and Portuguese Youth, is a program for teens that helps them meet other Jewish peers that they may not meet in other settings. We organize sporting events, barbeques and a myriad of other interesting events that help teens feel as though they are an integral part of building a community. JECO also promotes ecological living through Jewish values.

The Spanish and Portuguese synagogue also organizes Shabbatons and various other events that are designed to be +18. These programs are for an older crowd of young Jews in the city, whether they are in CEGEP and University as well as individuals out of school such as young professionals. Our Shabbatons are some of the best attended in the city, with young adults coming to the synagogue to celebrate Shabbat from all over the city.

If you find these organizations or events interesting, please refer to the Upcoming Events Calendar or please contact Tania Korin at taniaspanish@gmail.com for more information on how to join.
