250th Anniversary Exhibit
On Sunday, November 18th, Library and Archives Canada opened an important public exhibit of artifacts in its collection illustrating this rich history. 40 members of the Montreal Jewish community traveled to Ottawa for this event. The launch was followed by a presentation by McGill Professor James Archibald on the history of social engagement in Western Sephardic communities including the Montreal synagogue.
This event commemorating the history of Canada’s oldest Jewish congregation in Canada’s National Capital was a wonderful opportunity for all Canadians, including members of the Montreal and Ottawa Jewish communities, to learn about the country’s first synagogue, its rich history, and its valuable contribution to the life of Montreal, Quebec and Canada.
