About us

YASP is a group of young Jewish adults committed to bringing the youth together through fun and entertaining events.

Our mission consists of a number of priorities and objectives, namely to:
(a) Increase attendance of young members of our community at Synagogue services. Continuity and survival of our congregation is important to us.
(b) Keep our community connected to, engaged, and active at our synagogue.
(c) Foster a sense of pride in our heritage. Keep our traditions alive, and, in other words, "water our roots."
(d) Give young Jewish Montrealers opportunity to meet one another. It is important to us that we contribute to and, in some cases, enhance Montreal’s Jewish social life.

A number of us joined the celebrations at Montreal City Hall to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our congregation with the launch of an exhibit. Political and community leadership were present, including the mayor of Montreal Valérie Plante who addressed the crowd. Mazal Tov to the entire congregation!
We hosted our fourth Express Shabbat morning service and discussion, which was well attended and got positive feedback. We look forward to hosting more of them in the weeks to come, so stay tuned!
We started a new YASP initiative where a number of us come together and volunteer our time for different worthy causes. Last month, we volunteered at The Friendship Circle and assisted with an art and drama class - this was a very meaningful experience for all of us. Any location ideas or suggestions for the next volunteer initiative? Send them our way!
We hosted a Purim event at Sala Rosa along with our friends at the Shaare ZionShaar Hashomayim, and the Mile End Chavurah. We had a live band, food galore, and a megillah reading too. Thanks to all those who came out to join the fun!

Towards the end of March, we launched our fourth series of Baghdad Café, a series of conversational Arabic classes. The next class is taking place on April 8th at 7 PM. The cost is $10 and some delish food will be included. Interested in attending? Email Lisa Kattan here
What was dating like in Iraq? What was a Mimouna like in Morocco? What was schooling like in Egypt? On May 24th from 7:30 to 9:30 PM, YASP will be hosting a conversational meet-up with members of the community where the young adults can ask those members every question under the sun about what life was like in their home country. Let's learn about our roots, our customs, and our traditions and ask the very people who experienced them. $5 entry, and light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to us here
