On July 19, our Hazan Daniel Benlolo and his wife Muriel travelled to New York city to meet Rabbi Yamin Levy of Beth Hadassah Synagogue in Long Island and Rabbi Marc D. Angel, Rabbi emeritus of Congregation Shearith Israel, the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue in New York City. The goal of this journey was to complete a cycle of rabbinical studies and interviews with both Rabbis.
Hazan Benlolo has been working for the past 4 decades as a full-time clergy in both Sephardic and Ashkenazi synagogues deepening his knowledge and strengthening his bond with both communities. He has faithfully served the Jewish community while continuing to encourage religious diversity and dialogue which he believes helps everyone grow spiritually. His interfaith and multicultural work was recognized and acknowledged when the Universal Peace Federation, Interreligious, and International Federation for World Peace recognized him as an Ambassador for Peace for his effort and for his contribution towards a unified world of peace.
Hazan Benlolo is also the recipient of the 2017 Mayor's City Builder Award, 2016 Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers, 2013 Governor General Caring Canadian Award and the 2004 United Way Community Builder Award and the Elaine Rabin Social Service Award for his dedication and commitment to helping others in the community.
Both Rabbis acknowledged that Hazan Benlolo has proven himself and was worthy of the Reverend title and during his visit in NYC, conferred him the title of Reverend Hazan Daniel Benlolo. They presented him with a beautiful certificate which will be formally presented to him at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue during Rabbi Yamin Levy's Montreal visit on September 12, 2021 at 4 pm.
We invite each and every one of you to attend Hazan Daniel Benlolo's installation and to listen to a world-renowned speaker. Rabbi Yamin Levy currently serves as Senior Rabbi of the Iranian Jewish Center, Beth Hadassah Synagogue in Great Neck, Long Island. He is the founder and international director of the Maimonides Heritage Center based in Tiveria, Israel and New York. Rabbi Levy held the position of Academic Director of Sephardic Studies at Yeshiva University. He has authored and edited several books including an award-winning novel called Sababa. He has published numerous articles on Sephardic Studies, Jewish Law, Maimonides Studies, Biblical Studies and Jewish Thought. He has an active YouTube channel and enjoys corresponding with students around the world.
It is in times such as this when we call upon our congregation to help celebrate the accomplishments and milestones of our clergy which heightens our presence in our Jewish community and the community at large.
