École Polyvalente Saint-Joseph planned a visit to the Holocaust Museum and had a one hour window before their visit. Their professor Louis-Jean Pelletier contacted the Spanish Office and arranged a tour of our synagogue. The school bus pulled up in front of the synagogue and our 45 visitors were transferred to our Reverend Benlolo's capable hands. First he explained about having to put on a kippah for the male students when entering the Iny Chapel and its significance. Next they headed to the Mashaal Sanctuary (pictured above) where they delved and weaved the intricate web of Jewish history, customs and artifacts.

The Reverend ended his talk with the story of Bet Shamay and Bet Hillel where a potential Jew by choice needed one more reason to convert. He asked Shamay to teach him the entire Torah while he stood on one foot. Shamay literally threw him out of his home. He proceeded to the house of Hillel asking him the same. Hillel responded “Veahavta Lere’echa Kamocha” - Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself” - the rest is commentary. What a wonderful visit!
