The Man is the source of our livelihood

"And the Children of Israel saw it and said to one another – it is Man (an allotted gift)…."

The Dvar Yisrael says that even after the Man has stopped coming down from Heaven, G-d continues to bring livelihood to each Jew according to his level of faith in Him.

He wrote: "The Man is the source of our livelihood for generations. Thus a person's livelihood is prepared for him, as we say "He prepares food for all His creations" and it says in the Midrash: People lie on their beds and G-d brings down rain and makes the plants grow and He sets a table for each person… but not every person sees his livelihood the same way; each one, according to his faith and belief, sees his livelihood that G-d has prepared for him – just as it was by the Man.

It is always so, for the righteous people with belief and faith- every morning when they open the doors of their houses they see their livelihood prepared for them from Heaven. For the mediocre, people who do not have so much faith and belief, the prepared livelihood passes them by and "they go out and gather" – they have to go out and look in the markets and streets until they see and find their livelihood. For the wicked who have no faith at all, they "roam and gather"- they have to travel farther through seas and desserts until they see and find their livelihood."

Accordingly, the Divrei Yisrael explains the verse: "And Moshe said, this is that which G-d commanded, an omer-ful of it is to be kept for your generations that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you… when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt."

He writes: "G-d specifically wrote "that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness" because every person's livelihood is ready for him but not every person sees it and it depends on his faith which is the root of the Man and the root of livelihood for generations – and we are therefore commanded: "that they may see the bread" – they should see the livelihood that G-d prepared for them, which depends on their faith."

This is what David Hamelech said – "Everyone's eyes look towards You and You give them their food in due time, You open Your Hand and make every living being satiated satisfactorily." In other words, by our annulling our desire to find our livelihood by our own means and looking towards G-d instead – we look with our eyes with great faith towards G-d above that He give us nourishment and livelihood, - in this merit He "gives them their food in due time."
